Meet the Professionals – Ufuk Bahar, Founder & Managing Director at Urbanist Architecture.

This month, Layla Pacha, talked to Ufuk Bahar, the Founder and Managing Director of Urbanist Architecture, one of the London’s top rated architecture practices.

What’s your job title and how would you describe your role?

I am the founder and the managing director of Urbanist Architecture. My role includes creating architectural solutions that are recognisably different from anything else in this industry. I work towards our mission: Providing high quality, relevant and compelling architectural solutions that customers can only get from Urbanist Architecture.

What is a typical day for you?

I work on complex planning permission cases and help my clients make informed decisions about their property development and investment strategies. Additionally, I oversee the operation of the company and build an atmosphere for our team to be more effective.

What skills/qualifications/experience do you need to do your job?
A lot. Effective leadership and management. Excellent communication, planning and research skills. But more importantly resilience.

People who has a professional degree in architecture, design or planning related disciplines can work in architecture industry and experience depends on their role.

Experience also plays an important in the industry however, great attitude and personality is more important than experience.

How did you get to where you are at the moment?
Human nature seeks instant gratification. But building a successful architecture company that delivers inspiring projects takes time, energy, and persistence. I have been always persistent, and committed to my values and mission. I believe I wouldn’t be where I am at the moment without being persistent.

 

What kind of person do you need to be to do be successful in your industry?

People who want to be successful in this industry need to understand that they need time to achieve goals, especially big goals, and this requires patience, accountability and focus.

Who is your creative inspiration and why?

My biggest source of inspiration is nature. It is elegant, beautiful and rich.

What advice would you give a student looking to get work in your field?

They need to believe in themselves. Experiencing success is one of the most satisfying feelings in the world so they need to work towards their goals to feel it.
