Where Are They Now – Kenya Scott

What did you study and when did you graduate?

MA Radio and I graduated in 2017.

What did you do as a CEN8 volunteer?

I did a week-long workshop alongside my friend Nora, where we taught a small group of children about the radio industry and then made a podcast with them.

What was the most useful thing you learnt by being a volunteer?

How to cater your teaching in different environments as children have different tastes and qualities. You have to keep it interesting for them.

What was the best thing about volunteering?

Smiles, laughter, seeing an end product and knowing that the children learnt something. Making a connection with people!

What have you been up to since leaving Goldsmiths?

After leaving university I did a music programming internship at Radio X. I am now a technical operator for Capital FM and Radio X. I am also a studio manager at Monocle 24.

Has/how volunteering for CEN8 impacted on you since you left?

I definitely have more confidence in myself and my abilities in my field. Because I taught it to people and got a good outcome it means that I know what I’m doing, haha!

What career advice would you students currently at university?

Volunteer, get work experience, always look for the next opportunity, put yourself out there and most of all smile! Oh, and make sure that in between being a busy bee, you do get some rest and look after yourself as that is equally as important.
